Frequently Asked Questions

I've always handled things independently and have never sought therapy. Does this mean people who go to therapy are weak?

Quite the opposite. It takes self-awareness and strength to recognize when you need support and to reach out for it. Everyone faces challenges where their usual coping mechanisms might not be enough, and seeking help is a wise decision. We all possess inner strengths, and sometimes current difficulties can make them hard to access. We will work together to identify and leverage these strengths in your current situation.

What distinguishes professional consultation from discussions with friends or family?

There’s a significant difference between someone who can offer advice and a trained, experienced mental health professional. A professional can offer a fresh perspective on your situation, teach you new coping mechanisms, and help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, all while listening without judgment. Therapy offers complete confidentiality, so you don’t have to worry about your personal matters being shared. Furthermore, if you’ve been confiding in friends or family during a difficult emotional period, there’s a risk you might later avoid them as a reminder of that challenging time.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

While medication can be an effective tool, especially when used in conjunction with therapy, it primarily addresses symptoms. Our collaborative work aims to delve into the underlying causes of your concerns, examining behavior, and equipping you with strategies to achieve your personal and relational goals.

What should I expect?

Our therapeutic approach is shaped around your individual goals and challenges, creating a truly personalized experience.

How long will it take?

It is not possible to provide a general timeframe for therapy on an FAQs page, as each individual’s circumstances are unique. The duration of treatment required to achieve your goals depends on your motivation for personal development, your level of commitment, and the specific factors that led you to seek therapy.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help? Maximizing Your Therapy Experience: Tips for Success

Your active participation is vital to your success. While we meet once a week, the significant personal growth and development you’ll experience will largely stem from the work you put in between our sessions.

Individual vs. Couples Counseling: Which is Right for Us?

We would begin with joint sessions. Following this, if one of you prefers to continue individually, we can accommodate that. However, transitioning from individual to couples therapy with the same therapist is not advisable due to potential trust complications.
