Suicide Prevention Week 2023
Sept. 10th to Sept. 16th, 2023
September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time when we come together as a community to raise awareness and support those who may be struggling with thoughts of self-harm or suicide. It’s a crucial opportunity to emphasize the importance of mental health, understanding, and compassion as we move into the cooler months especially. Below are
some helpful ways to help make a difference and support
those around you.
Why Suicide Prevention Month?
Educate Yourself: Learn about the signs of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Understanding the warning signs can empower you to help someone in need.
Start Conversations: Break the silence surrounding mental health. Engage in open, non-judgmental conversations with friends, family, and colleagues about how they’re feeling. Sometimes, all it takes is a caring ear.
Support Resources: Familiarize yourself with mental health resources in your community and online. Share these resources with others who might need them.
Show Empathy: If someone confides in you about their struggles, listen without judgment. Sometimes, just knowing someone cares can make a world of difference.
Self-Care: Take care of your own mental health. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Make time for self-care and seek support if you need it.
Advocate: Support organizations and initiatives that focus on mental health and suicide prevention. By advocating for change, you contribute to a world where mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health.
Remember, you don’t have to be a mental health professional to make a positive impact during Suicide Prevention Month, Suicide Prevention Week, or any time of the year. Small gestures of kindness and understanding can save lives. Together, we can raise awareness, provide support, and ultimately, prevent suicide. You matter! Keep Going!
