Dr. Melissa Heinemann, Psy.D. provides individual psychotherapy for adolescents through adults using an integrative, evidence-based approach. With respect for each person’s unique goals and experiences, Dr. Heinemann strives to help each client gain a better understanding of themselves and their mental health in order to create lasting change.
For more immediate symptom management, she regularly incorporates mindfulness-based skills and cognitive-behavioral strategies into treatment. Dr. Heinemann also provides comprehensive psychological assessments focused on multiple areas including intellectual, academic, attention/concentration, emotional, executive functioning, and memory/learning. Dr. Heinemann serves as the Training Director at Restoring Wellness Clinical Services where she supervises doctoral psychology students as they learn to provide thorough psychological assessments and effective psychotherapy.
A native of the area, Dr. Heinemann earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from DePaul University and her master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. She began her career serving college students as a staff psychologist at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point after completing an APA-accredited internship at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s counseling center. Before joining the Restoring Wellness team, Dr. Heinemann worked for the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin providing individual psychotherapy for adolescents through adults with a broad range of mental health concerns. While trained as a generalist in all areas of mental health, Dr. Heinemann has extensive experience working with gender and sexual identity development and providing affirming psychological care. She is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Illinois and Wisconsin and is authorized to practice interjurisdictional telepsychology in states with enacted PSYPACT legislation. .
