A Pre-Surgical Evaluation is an evaluation that is conducted by one of our Licensed Clinical Psychologists that provides information on psychological and psychosocial factors that may influence the effectiveness of an upcoming medical procedure. Your physician may request a Pre-Surgical Evaluation to help understand you better prior to the medical intervention and provide an individualized post-operative treatment plan based on your unique psychological functioning.
Pre-Surgical/Medical Evaluations are often conducted for:
- Spine Surgery
- In-Vitro Fertilization
- Bariatric Surgery
- Transplant Surgery
- Chronic Pain Treatment
The Pre-Surgical Evaluation involves a structured clinical interview and psychological testing. A typical evaluation can be completed between 2-3 hours. The structured clinical interview gathers information surrounding: medical and psychological history, social history, coping skills, family history, knowledge of proposed medical procedure, and factors impacting your decision to have the procedure. The psychological testing assesses for personality and clinical symptoms that may impact the effectiveness of the procedure and your functionality after the procedure. After the evaluation is completed, our Licensed Clinical Psychologist will provide your physician with a detailed report. A signed consent for us to communicate with your physician is necessary for the Pre-Surgical Evaluation to be conducted.
